As seen in «Traveling like a PRO – Edition 1», traveling isn´t always as easy as we´d hope. Especially when going to a country where we have never been to and don´t speak the lanuage a bit, or even at all. However, using the post on how to survive at an airport, you have hopefully made it through customs and are now heading towards the exit. But here awaits trouble number two:

The reservation itself

You know that you have a reservation in a hotel or are meeting someone somewhere, but you don´t know how to get there. Use the following phrases to get to your destination:

  • ¿Dónde está la parada de taxis?Where can I find a taxi?
  • Me gustaría ir a…
I would like to go to…
  • ¿Dónde está la parada de autobús?
    Where is the bus stop?

Once arrived at your destination, let´s take a hotel as an example, you will have to ask for certain things about your reservation. Use these phrases to ask for everything that you need:

  • ¿En qué planta estoy?
What floor is my room on?
  • ¿Dónde están los ascensores?
    Where are the elevators?
  • ¿Cómo accedo al internet?
How do I access the internet?
  • ¿Cómo llamo a la recepción?
How do I call down to the front desk?
And finally…!

By this time, you will have had the time to settle down in the apartment, get used to the hotel and get to know all the noises you aren´t used to. It is time to explore the city! Of course, you can use the same phrasees for finding a taxi or finding your way, but these sentences will definitely help you in finding all the things you want to visit!

  • ¿Usted tiene un mapa de la ciudad?
Do you have a city map?
  • ¿Dónde están los restaurantes/bares?
    Where can I find a restaurant/bar?
  • ¿Dónde está el banco?
    Where is the bank?
  • ¿Cómo voy a…? ¿Está lejos ir a…?
How do I get to…? How far is it to?

Exploring a new city and country should be fun, so use these sentences to find your way! Often, speaking in someone´s mother tongue makes people eager to speak to you and help you out. Using these phrases, you can talk to people and get where you want to go. Enjoy your trip!
